Last cast fish – 81cm Garrick

Submitted by Hylton on March 9, 2010 – 05:248 Comments

I had decided on about Thursday that I was going to try fishing somewhere different this weekend. Having never been to Igoda I figured that was as good a place as any, also what with it only 10min from home I thought it could become a regular spot if the fishing is any good.

I arrived nice an early, 5:15 and pumped a few prawns, netted some mullet and generally enjoyed the sight of tailing grunter (Mental note, come back with a fly). The fishing turned out to be a little tougher than expected, with lots of little stumpies cleaning the prawns up. Eventually I decided to drift and fish a little berkley sand worm to see if I couldn’t pick something up on that, and the prawns were all gone. Quickly picked up 2 little grunter (320mm, 340mm) not quite making the dropshot compo. Just before I left I noticed a chase over the deeper water and decided to have a few throws for something bigger. GOOD DECISION, 2nd cast into a 520mm garrick then two casts later I got my prize, 810mm fork length!!

FISH: Garrick (Leerie)

WEIGHT/LENGTH: 810mm fork

CAUGHT BY: Hylton

CAUGHT AT: Igoda 07 March 2010

BAIT/LURE: Chart pepper neon jerk shad

    Awesome catch Hylton!! Well done!!
I have not yet hooked a Leery on dropshot but my day will come.

Did you launch at the holiday resort? Do they Charge or do you just get permission?
I have always wanted to take my ski there but carrying it down the path at the beach doesn’t look fun. Also I like to fish into dark and it isn’t that safe at the beach parking.

The Spotties in that river love a camo worm :-)
