Exploding Topwater Bass
As I worked late and missed the Mini Comp, I thought I’d go to upper Nahoon and see if I couldn’t land a few Bucketmouths. Upon arriving I saw that a nice line of algae had formed at the bottom end, and seeing as I usually fish higher up, I though it was worth a shot and boy was I glad I tried. My very first cast landed right on the lip of the Algae.
I left it still for about 10 sec and then gave it a single twitch. Big Explosion and FISH ON! Gave me a good pull too before I landed it. Quick pic and lure back in the water. This time the lure barely touched the water and another huge explosion followed by a another decent fight by a bigger fish. Got another nice one shortly after and a few smaller ones. Also dropped a few. Went back Sunday afternoon and tough to myself that this luck would not last. I was wrong. I Casted out my trusty Z-Too and there it was again, the exposion I was looking for. Missed the fish, but the heart was racing. Cast again, twitch, twitch and FISH ON! This one gave me a big fight and then did something I hardly ever see. It bent a 5/0 Owner hook. A sad day, until 10min later . New hook, and a few casts later, I was on again, got nice 2 once in total. What a weekend! Now to collect my prize.
