Farm Dam Bass
With the increase in posts of Bass being caught added to the incentive of this months compo I started having a good look at my Bass tackle standing in the corner. Then when my father said he had found a dam we could try out I hastily dusted off the tackle bag, grabbed a couple of rods and waited for Sunday afternoon. After lunch we were going to take a drive and explore the dam. We arrived to find a 5-10mtr border of reeds and only one little gap in the corner where you could just cast! Not to be deterred I put on a weightless Finesse worm and fished it like a trickworm on 8lb Fireline. After a few nibbles from small fish I felt that heaviness that signals a better bite!! I set the hook and was rewarded with a beatiful, healthy 1,6kg Bass. Later I also got a Tilapia? of about a kilo on a Blue Fox in-line spinner. Unfortunately I have been asked not to disclose the whereabouts of the dam and it certainly needs a boat to be fished.
FISH: Largemouth Bass
WEIGHT/LENGTH: 1,6 kg
CAUGHT BY: FLUKE
CAUGHT AT: Farm Dam 7 February 2010
BAIT/LURE: Weightless Zoom Finesse Worm

fluke i am with you on the pitch casting, much more accurate. check out true cast bass inflatables (in most s.A bass mags) and tony afraid you are wrong about winter and bass, they are still there and i’ve caught some really good fish in winter. big bait and put it right in front of them, they will take it. try a senko, watermelon green with red fleck
Hmmmmm, I think I know this dam, Haaa haaa.
How about arranging a small compo on this dam?
I’m busy trying to clean up one side and the dam wall, those tree roots are going to cause “marakaz” soon!!!
The record for this dam stands at 3,4kg Large mouth and not to sure with the Mozambique robustas???
I need to thin out the bream and let the bass grow.
Can any one on this forum assist?
Thanks Tony, I would like to take you up on that offer sometime soon.
Cheers,
Alton.
Hey Fluke,
Summer is fading away fast now Buck.
The bass will start to dissapear from March…fish hard now.
By the way, I got an old kick boat at home.
If you wanna borrow it to try, you’re welcome…
Let me know.
Tony
Good advise, I think a well rigged kick boat is a good option. The only drawback is that I like pitch casting and you can’t do that unless you are standing. I’m in no rush so maybe I’ll try a few options before I do anything about it.
Hey Fluke.
Stuff the little boats man…GET A FLOAT TUBE OR KICKBOAT…!!!
Believe me , much more fun, much easier to transport and launch, no fuel required, etc,….
I had little boats, they are a hassle. A float tube is ok, but slow and you’re wet a lot. a Kick Boat is awesome. Just your ankles get wet, you’re high out of the water, so easier to cast, and easy to manouver into the smallest little spaces on a dam.
Consider it.
Tony
Thanks Tony,
It’s way too early to start talking compo results but that dam has better to offer I just need to find a little boat to fish from.
That Kurper gave an amazing pull, It pulled far harder than the bass, was very fast and even took some line. It still can’t compare to when you see your line heading to the surface and then a big bass jumping with his big mouth wide open:-)
Wriggleswade will be hard to beat for the compo and I was actually going to target the Leery instead but I take every opportunity I get to target bass, They’re just addictive!!
Good fish Fluke….
That Kurper must have been fun too, they have stamina.
I’d give you the Feb prize from Storm, if it was up to me.
However, I do intend catching something a little larger myself and submitting it during the next few weeks….and my wife might just give you a bit of a fright with her submissions too.
Keep fishing Buck.
Well done.
Tony
